Rewarding Exchange with Saint Kentigern Girls’ School
The Rangi Ruru Year 7 and 8 girls students have recently spent 3 days being warmly hosted by St Kentigern Girls’ School in Auckland.
This sporting and cultural exchange had 47 nervous and excited girls leaving Christchurch on Monday morning and arriving at St Kentigern’s eager to finally meet their billets in person. After a welcoming powhiri and performance of the Rangi Ruru haka, the girls got to meet who they would be staying with for the next 3 days. Friendships were immediately formed and the girls were treated to some Auckland activities and sights with their host families.
Day two was the beginning of the sport exchange with the girls participating in Netball, Basketball and Indoor Soccer. Music also played a part on day two with a combined performance of St Kentigern and Rangi Ruru musicians. The girls also had an amazing opportunity to share their learning of the Sasa and to teach it to their counterparts.
On Wednesday, we all joined the school for Chapel and the girls experienced being a St Kent’s girl for the morning attending classes. All too soon, it was time for us to leave our new friends. Sad to go and exhausted, yet excited about the friendships and connections made. It was a truly varied learning experience, full of personal growth and development.
