Rangi Ruru Preschool Korowai Blessing
The children and team here at Rangi Ruru Preschool have worked together to screen print these fabric feathers and create our beautiful korowai. We will be using our Korowai for special celebrations, such as children’s birthdays and farewells from our Rangi family. The Korowai is a symbol of ‘belonging to a shared family’, here at Rangi Ruru.
On Friday we attended Chapel with the ‘big girls’ of Rangi Ruru Girls’ School. We were able to share some of their assembly time, so that we could celebrate our learning and bless our Korowai Cloak with our Rangi Ruru whanau.
The blessing was led by our school Chaplain, Reverend Kirstie McDonald, our school Principal, Dr Sandra Hastie and Matua Connor Matthews. Prayers for our efforts were shared, along with blessing our beautiful taonga. The children then introduced the ‘big girls’ to our Rangi Ruru Preschool Treaty song and together we sang it a couple of times.
We feel very privileged to be part of our wider Rangi Ruru School community of learners, supported in our learning by the faculty members we work with and being able to share such special occasions with our family and friends.
A huge thank you to Libby Sheehy and Kate Rivers of the Art Department for their ongoing enthusiasm and openness to working with our preschoolers, and to Craig Morrison for always being there when we need photographic memories of our learning journey.
Just another example of what makes life here at Rangi Ruru Preschool so very special!
