Dame Malvina Major Nurturing New Talent at Rangi Ruru

Rangi Ruru musicians were treated to a special masterclass with internationally renowned soprano Dame Malvina Major on Wednesday 16 March.

The senior choir, Resolutions, along with five soloists spent the morning with Dame Malvina where she worked with the girls on aspects such as breathing, vocal production, text interpretation, movement and presentation.

“The school has had a long standing relationship with Dame Malvina Major”, says Director of Music, Janet Kingsbury. “We are very fortunate to be able to give our girls the opportunity to learn from someone of her exceptional talent, in this way.”
Janet Kingsbury says Dame Malvina was very generous with her offer to work with the girls.

“They, and those observing, learnt a great deal at the masterclass and responded positively to Dame Malvina’s warmth and affirmation of the good work that they were already doing with their singing,” said Mrs Kingsbury.

Rangi Ruru is now taking applications for 2017 music scholarships. For further details and to apply visit www.rangiruru.school.nz/scholarships
